Global Traffic Network UK (GTN) has launched its second traffic spotter plane, serving listeners to Pirate FM in Cornwall.

The “Pirate Eye” is based at Plymouth Airport and is crewed by GTN staff, usually reporter Dave Gould and pilot Rebecca Wilson.

It’s part of GTN’s service to UKRD Group, which also includes an airborne service for 96.4 Eagle Radio that should begin broadcasting in the next few weeks.

GTN already presents “The Flying Jack” for Jack FM in Oxford.

Head of Radio, Anthony Rudd, says “Radio listeners love and trust traffic information presented from aircraft and we are delighted to offer the best possible traffic service to our affiliates. It’s one of our unique selling points and we’re proud of it”.

Programme Director Bob McCreadie says “We asked the people of Cornwall and they told us airborne traffic reports are something they really want for their radio station. We’re grateful to Global Traffic Network for the service, which will help us cement our Number One position in Cornwall”.

Notes to editors:

Global Traffic Network Inc already provides customised traffic reports for free to affiliated commercial radio and TV stations across Australia and Canada in exchange for 10” spots of airtime inventory and supplies a growing number of stations in the UK.
